Visa Information
and Application Procedures :
In principle, all visitors must obtain visa prior to entering Tanzania,
except nationals of the East African Community, Hong Kong, Macao, Rwanda,
Romania and Commonwealth countries (excluding Australia, Bangladesh, Canada,
India, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, South Africa and United
Kingdom). You must apply for and obtain a visa from a nearest Tanzania
Embassy, High Commission or a Consulate before proceeding to Tanzania.
Please, check with the Embassy to confirm if you believe you do not require
any visa to enter Tanzania.
Visa holders are subject to normal Immigration control
at the port of entry. They should therefore carry with them documents submitted
with their applications, for possible presentation to Immigration officers.
Types of
Visa :
There are two types of visa:

Travel visa
|
| |
|
Travel visa is granted to foreigners who wish to enter
and remain in the United Republic of Tanzania for a certain period
of time. Types of entries, validity of visa and duration of stay
for this category of visa are as follows: |

a) |
Single entry travel visa has a validity of ninety
(90) days with effect from date of issue, provided that the remaining
validity of the passport at the time of issuing such visa shall not
be less than six months. |

b)
|
Double entry travel visa has a validity of six
(6) months and a maximum period of stay of ninety (90) days provided
that the remaining validity of the passport at the time of issuing
such visa shall not be less than nine months. |

c) |
Multiple entry travel visa has a validity of twelve
(12) months and a maximum period of stay of one hundred and twenty
(120) days in aggregate, provided a single stay shall not exceed
ninety (90) days and the remaining validity of the passport at the
time of issuing shall not be less than 15 months. |

Transit Visa
|
| |
|
Transit visa is issued only to travelers with onward
tickets, sufficient funds for the crossing in Tanzania, and an entry
visa for the country of destination (or any proof that prior arrangements
have been made that satisfy this requirement). There are only two
types of entries for the transit visa, which are, single entry transit
visa and double entry transit visa. The maximum duration of stay
for the transit visa is 3 days and 6 days (in total) for the respective
two types of entries. |

*Long term studies applicants are advised to apply Resident Permit Class “C”.
The application should be submitted to the Director of Immigration Services
at the Immigration Headquarters. For further information on Resident Permit

Visitor's
Pass :
Applicants who intend to travel to Tanzania for the purpose of carrying
on temporary assignments with organizations or companies will be issued
a "Visitor's Pass" on arrival at the entry point. However, before
traveling they are requested to obtain a Travel visa from the Tanzania
Missions abroad. The fee for obtaining a visitor's pass at the entry point
is 100 US$.
Application
Procedures :
The Embassy is open from 9:00 12:00
for visa application and from 13:00 16:00
for visa collection, from Monday to Friday (except on Japanese and Tanzanian
National Holidays).
It takes two days to process the visa application. This is only for those
applications that will be submitted by hand.

Please ensure that the visa form is correctly filled
and relevant supporting documents as well as correct fee are enclosed
before submitting your application to ensure prompt processing of
your application. |

It takes up to 10 working days to process all visa
applied through postal service. |

If you reside outside of Japan, such as in the Philippines,
it takes up to 14 working days to process visa applied through international
postal service. |

Once visa issued, fees will not be refunded. |

Visas for research and journalism/filming will only be granted
after the applicant has obtained a permit from the Tanzania Commission
for Science and Technology (COSTECH), P.O. Box 4302, Dar es Salaam,

Gratis
visa :
Diplomatic/Official passport holders will be granted gratis visa, except
when traveling on unofficial capacity in which case they are subject to
pay prescribed fees. This also applies to Laissez-passer holders of the
UN, SADC, AU and other International Organizations recognized by the United
Republic of Tanzania.

from this website. To actually use online visa application form you need an "Acrobat
Reader" installed in your computer. Alternatively you can click "Acrobat
Reader" button below for free plug-in software.
