General Information

Tanzania, the largest country in Eastern Africa is located one degree south of the equator, bordering the Indian Ocean. Covering an area of 945,000 square kilometers. The country is two and half times times the size of Japan. It borders Kenya and Uganda in the north, Congo, Rwanda and Burundi in the west; and Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique in the south, making it a splendid centre to explore East, Central and Southern Africa.

Tanzania is famous for its rich wildlife and beautiful landscape including the snowcapped Mountain Kilimanjaro, the highest in Africa (5,895 metres), whose majesty inspired Hemingway to write a novel.

The Tanzanian people speak about 126 ethnic languages, while Kiswahili and English are official and business languages, respectively. The country can truly claim to be the home of the "safari" (Kiswahili word for a journey) since 25% of Tanzania is set aside for animal and nature protection.
